Electrical Bid Template (2026): Editable Pack and Example

Blank job paperwork with ordinary tools on a work desk
On this page8

An electrical bid template sets out the work you price. Name the plans and the spec you used. Use it to record your offer. It does not design circuits or tell you how to install them.

Count the work. State its limits. Ask about gaps before you give a total.

Separate the base scope, alternates and exclusions. List drawing versions and changes. State who supplies fittings. Add access and test requirements. Name who handles permits. Count devices and measured runs by type. A count does not prove that a design is safe; use the actual project requirements for that work.

Section What to enter
Basis Project record ID, drawing list, revision, addenda
Distribution Panels or gear included, with file record IDs
Branch work Circuit scope and measured runs by stated type
Devices Type, count, location and supply duty
Lighting Fixture schedule record ID and who supplies each item
Other systems Clear included systems. Others excluded or questioned
Completion Testing, labels, records and handover needs
Price terms Price basis, validity, schedule and acceptance route

The blank and filled file layouts keep these headings separate. Use one line for one defined item. “Electrical work complete” leaves too much to interpretation when the drawings, specs and site conditions differ.

Build the electrical bid template from the plans

List the files used to prepare the offer. Note a drawing date as well as a filename. If a revision arrives during estimating, record if you included it. An addendum checklist is useful because a revised fixture schedule may change both goods and labour.

Count by device type and location. Keep a mark-up copy showing what each count includes. Do not blend outlets, switches and special devices into one count unless the buyer's schedule clearly calls for that. Separate measured cable or conduit runs from counted gear.

Record the unit beside every count. A run measured in feet must not be multiplied by a price per hundred feet without conversion. A box price and an individual device price also need distinct labels. Keep vendor pack sizes in the private cost sheet instead of guessing that one unit means one package.

Define supply and interface roles

Owner-supplied fixtures still create handling and fitting work. State who orders and stores them. Name who checks that they fit and deals with missing parts. You can price the fitting work and leave the goods out.

Say so in plain terms.

List interfaces with other trades. Cutting, patching, painting and excavation are common scope questions. This form does not automatically exclude them. Mark each as included, by others or unresolved.

Add a record ID to the project need that settles it.

First bid example

Imagine an office-room lighting alteration on a made-up plan. The bidder counts eight owner-supplied fittings and records two measured runs separately. The base offer covers fitting, the listed wiring work and the stated handover records. Wall repainting is excluded because another package includes it.

The buyer later adds a control change. The bidder records it as an alternate until the scope is checked. If chosen, the revised proposal names the alternate and updates the base total. The old version remains in the bid record.

This is a document example, not an instruction to alter a live electrical installation.

Price and programme checks

Obtain real vendor and labour inputs. Keep gear, access and testing time visible in the private costing. A client's requested finish date does not prove goods will arrive in time. State the schedule basis and any needed choices without claiming a guaranteed start you cannot support.

Use the general bid proposal to assemble the bid package. Keep follow-up in the tracker. Once work is billable, the electrical invoice serves a distinct purpose from the offer.

Sources and limits

The scope and basis note method draws on the GAO cost guide, checked 15 October. Full revision date is shown above. This page gives no conductor sizing, protection, load or code-compliance formula. A form cannot do that work.

Unknown needs stay open instead of being silently priced at zero.

FAQ

Does a device count decide the whole price?

No. The same count can involve distinct runs, access, gear and finish needs. Use the count as one input within the defined scope. Keep the cost basis and basis notes beside the takeoff so the estimate can be checked when the plans or site conditions change.

Can I use this instead of the buyer's form?

Use the required response form where the invitation specifies one. This template can help prepare the supporting scope and exclusions, but it does not override submission rules. Check drawing references, signatures, attachments and the deadline before sending. Keep a copy of the package you sent.

Verdict on the electrical bid template

Use the electrical bid template to make the priced work and its limits traceable. Resolve trade design from the project needs. Then record the price offer against that baseline.
